He told the court that his client’s treatment did not amount to torture but was unlawful degrading treatment, and he was being dealt with differently partly because of his ideology. Tom Cross KC, for the justice secretary, said the segregation was not a punishment but a carefully considered “bespoke regime” to keep the prisoner safe. Prison authorities had received intelligence that Yaxley-Lennon had “a mark on his head”, he said. Two prisoners had been planning to assault him to “gain kudos and notoriety”. Another tip suggested that an inmate serving a life sentence would kill Yaxley-Lennon if they were ever placed on the same wing. Mr Cross said Yaxley-Lennon had three hours to exercise and use a gym. He can arrange four two-hour long visits a week from friends and family. Some 120 people have been authorised to see him on 93 visits – more than any other inmate. He has a TV and a DVD player and is receiving hundreds of emails from supporters on a dedicated laptop. While that evidence was given, thickly-bearded Yaxley-Lennon could be seen shaking his head on a video link from prison and occasionally gesticulating with his arms. I have spent years defending him but the aura has gone for me now. Reporting Rupert to the police? Come on. They’re trying to put him in prison!” The staff member went on to claim that the root of this whole row was Elon Musk’s praise for Lowe on X, saying: “Nigel is very sensitive about his American contacts.” Another staffer said: “It is absolutely terrible the party going to the police. “You’d never find someone more kind and considerate than Rupert. “If you don’t have policies as a party, you’re a joke and that is what Rupert was pointing out.” The BBC has also seen evidence of lengthy and detailed exchanges between Lowe’s offices and Parliament’s human resources team over the alleged conduct and subsequent departures of two members of staff. Lowe has long insisted that he and his staff diligently followed the due process parliament requires of them and there was no need for the party, or a senior lawyer hired by the party, to get involved. Reform UK has expanded rapidly, now boasting more than 200,000 members and regularly topping or coming second in national opinion polls. They have contributed to fan comics and charity projects, including TFNation’s yearly comic and a fan continuation of Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog comics. The front gable end of a row of three terraced houses, which had been converted into flats, fell to the ground. Nobody needed medical treatment at the scene, a spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service (LAS) said. The spokesperson warned of disruption in the local area, including road closures, throughout the day. The building is managed by Notting Hill Genesis. A spokesperson said: “We are arranging temporary alternative accommodation for the households affected, and will continue to do so until their property has been repaired. “We have launched an immediate investigation into the causes of this faulty roof and what work needs to be done to ensure our tenants can safely return.” The LFB sent two fire engines from North Kensington fire station and a fire rescue unit from Chelsea fire station to the incident, which was over for firefighters by 03:00.
